‘Patterns of Diversity’ is a bold and unapologetic body of work exploring the complexities of humanity through a social-anthropological lens. Drawing from social observations and psychology, it investigates how personality and hegemony shape our understanding of the social world.
Who am I? Who am I supposed to be?
Set against the backdrop of Christchurch street art, ‘Patterns of Diversity’ meets you somewhere between the gallery and the street. The spirit of graffiti and protest is ever-present, with homage to New Zealand artist Pat Hanly in several pieces. Playful word art intertwines with street art elements, creating a layered narrative that demands further investigation.
Embodying the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-sabi, the work embraces the beauty found in imperfection, transience, and randomness. Though some viewers may feel confronted, the pieces are here to challenge you to respond, reflecting on personal and societal patterns of existence. These artworks are designed to communicate and provoke, seeking not just to be seen but to become an open conversation.
